Us posem unes fotos de la conferència d’ahir. En Robert Pedra, director tècnic i industrial responsable d’operacions d’RS Aviation, ens va explicar les capacitats de les imatges aèries per a detectar i delimitar jaciments arqueològics. En Roger Sala, de SOT Prospecció, va fer un resum de les diverses tècniques de prospecció geofísica aplicables a l’arqueologia industrial i va mostrar exemples d’aplicacions dutes a terme a Catalunya.

En el marc del Forum de Patrimoni Industrial,el proper dilluns dia 26 de març hi ha programada la conferència gratuïta La Geofísica i la Teledetecció com eïna d’estudi del Patrimoni Arqueològic Industrial a càrrec de Roger Sala i Robert Pedra.
El Fòrum de Patrimoni Industrial està organitzat per l’Associació del Museu de la Ciència i de la Tècnica i de l’Arqueologia Industrial de Catalunya, i té per objectiu fomentar el debat sobre els temes relacionats amb l’existència i la història del patrimoni tècnic i industrial de Catalunya. With the participation of some of the best experts in archaeological geophysics worldwide, MAC-IWAG offers archaeologists and geophysicists an intensive 5-day course, within the framework of Museu d’Arqueologia de Catalunya-Ullastret (Girona, Catalonia).
Scope
The scope of the 1st MAC-IWAG is training archaeologists and geophysicists in the most advanced geophysical techniques for archaeological prospection. The workshop will be held at the Museu d’Arqueologia de Catalunya-Ullastret: Puig de St. Andreu and Illa d’en Reixac Iron Age archaeological sites (VI-II BC); Girona, Spain (http://www.mac.cat/eng/Branches/Ullastret).

Teaching and programme
Lectures will focus on four techniques: Ground penetrating radar, magnetics, electromagnetic induction and electric resistivity. The workshop includes theoretical topics, fieldwork activities and data processing.
Basic theory through presentation of case histories will be introduced for every technique.
Fieldwork will focus in fast and large-scale data acquisition for high-resolution mapping. Data acquisition will be carried out in the Ullastret archaeological site. Fieldwork will include archaeological excavation.
The participants will go through data processing flows, visualization and final archaeological data interpretation.
Participants
The workshop is open to geophysicists, archaeologists, engineers, physicists and geologists who are interested in geophysical technologies for archaeological prospection.
Cost
The registration fee is 300 Euros, which does not cover accommodation and meals. Assistance will be offered with arranging accommodation close to the venue. There will be four competitive ISAP bursaries of 100 Euros each, for attendants of the workshop who are ISAP members and who are either students or young professionals on a junior salary scale.

SOT participated to the archaeological summer school organized by the archaeological site of Empùries.
The intervention consisted of a first theoretical session where geophysical concepts and methodologies, processing steps and challenges of interpretation were exposed. During the second day, the morning was dedicated to data acquisition with magnetic gradiometer, GPR and resistivimeter and data were processed in the afternoon. The geophysical session ended with the presentation of study cases.
SOT va participar a l’últim curs d’Empúries.
La sessió geofísica va consistir en una tarda de conferencia sobre els conceptes i les metodologies de geofísica aplicada a la arqueologia, el procés de les dades i les problemàtiques de la interpretació de les dades. Al dia següent, el matí es va dedicar a l’adquisició de dades fent servir una gradiometre magnètic, un GPR i un resistivímetre i a la tarde es van processar les dades. La intervenció geofísica es va acabar amb la presentació de casos pràctics.

SOT Archaeological Prospection will be attending to the 9th International Conference on Archaeological Prospection between September 19 and 24 of 2011 at Izmir (Turquey).
We will be presenting the results of the geophysical survey performed in the Historic Site of Sant Pau at the Poster Session.
SOT prospecció arqueològica serà present a la 9a Conferència Internacional sobre la prospecció arqueològica, entre setembre 19 i 24 de 2011 a Izmir (Turquia).
Estarem presentant els resultats de la prospecció geofísica realitzada al Recinte Històric de Sant Pau en la sessió de pòsters.
A grant for collaboration between universities and private companies was awarded to SOT Archaeological Prospection.
It will help funding a research project on data cross analysis using geostatistics with the aim of improving the interpretation of archaeometric results.
Una ajuda de suport a les empreses ha estat otorgada a SOT Prospecció arqueològica.
Amb aquesta ajuda es podrà finançar un projecte d’investigació sobre anàlisi creuat de dades fent servir geostatístiques amb l’objectiu d’optimitzar la interpretació dels resultats de les prospeccions.
This year’s excavation of the archaeological site of Puig Ciutat will be held from the 18th to the 29th of July.
The areas started last year will be extended and an additional area will be opened depending on the results of the geophysical survey of this spring.

We went yesterday for a very interesting meeting at the Institute for advanced architecture of Catalonia (IaaC).
We met a group of students working on the consolidation in situ of sand in order to build underground structures.
We hope geophysics will help them monitor their great project.

L’adquisició incloïa el mapeig d’una selecció de façanes i voltes. Els objectius són la descripció de l’estructura metàl·lica no accessible i l’avaluació del seu estat de conservació.
The survey included the mapping of selected facades and vaults. The objective were to detect the main iron frame of the building and its grade of conservation.

En previsió de l’excavació d’estiu de 2011, es va decidir realitzar el mapeig del subsòl a l’entorn de l’església. L’objectiu va ser la descripció de les possibles estructures constructives relacionades amb la basílica i la ubicació de futures cales d’exploració.
En preparation of the excavations scheduled for this summer, a geophysical mapping around the Church using a GPR was performed. The survey aimed to describe the possible constructive structures and to decide the location of exploratory trenches.

Remains dating of the Roman Republic were detected below the middle age Castle of Irulegi. A multi-system geophysical prospection including GPR, magnetic and electric surveys was conducted in order to map and delimit the extension of these remains.

Es va realitzar la segona campanya de cartografia geofísica de la ciutat Romana de Lancia i es vq delimitar el fòrum d’època imperial. Amb la campanya de 2009 ja s’han explorat 5 Ha de la ciutat.
The second geophysical survey of the Roman city of Lancia was achieved last September and the forum of the city was mapped. The total area explored after the two campaigns of 2009 and 2010 is of 5Ha.
